Peace Corps work
During my Peace Corps service in Guatemala from 2008-2010, I was involved in various architectural and construction related projects. It was a challenging environment, working in both Spanish and English, coordinating the efforts of nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and local citizens’ groups. Although funding and community resources made large projects like The Mayan School rare, I was involved in many small-scale works. I designed water tanks, composting latrines, and other sanitary infrastructure, and trained local laborers (in Spanish) how to build and manage these types of construction projects. It was a rewarding and educational experience.
